Now Robots Will Come Your Way to Deliver Food and Goods – Postmates Got Permit in San Francisco
Postmates – an on demand delivery app – has been given the grant in San Francisco to test its four-wheeled cart-like robots. As per TechCrunch, the permit will open the ways for Postmates to test its independent delivery robots it talked about in December 2018.
While the company is as of now up and running in more than 3,500 cities around the globe, the permit will let it grow its business further using a new method of transportation for deliveries.
Postmates states that its power fueled robots, which has Nvidia Xavier processor and a Velodyne LIDAR sensors, can travel 30 miles and can carry 50 lbs on a single battery charge.
As per Postmates, the idea behind these robots is to reduce the time a human spends in looking for parking and sitting in traffic. The company said in a blog post that these autonomous robots are designed to pick up an order from the store or restaurant and pass it to the drivers parked nearby.
San Francisco Public Works Protocols state that the permit is legitimate for 180 days and every robot being tested must have a human administrator inside 30 feet for the span of testing.
While Postmates is not the only company testing robots for delivery, it is the first one that got the permit in San Francisco. If we talk about other areas, the robotic devices of Starship Technologies are as of now making deliveries the same way in the UK. They also collaborated with Postmates to test delivery services in the United States in the year 2017, however, the deal didn’t work and the goal shattered after a few months.

With extreme competition in on demand delivery app business from DoorDash, Amazon, Grubhub, and others, Postmates is looking to self-ruling deliveries to help make its fleet increasingly productive and efficient.
